Terms and conditions

Last updated: 20 March 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of the Quill electronic signature platform at quillsign.app. By using Quill, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Quill is a trading name of Bright Sustainability Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15484715) at 75 Royal Court Drive, Bolton, BL1 4AZ.

2. The service

Quill provides a pay-per-use platform for creating and sending electronic signature requests. Each document costs £1.99. No subscription or account balance is required.

Quill facilitates Simple Electronic Signatures (SES) as defined under the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and UK eIDAS. SES are legally valid for most commercial contracts and agreements under English law.

3. What Quill is not suitable for

Quill is not suitable for documents that require:

  • Witnessed or notarised signatures
  • Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) or Advanced Electronic Signatures (AES)
  • Wet ink signatures required by statute

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Wills and codicils
  • Deeds for land registration (Land Registration Act 2002)
  • Powers of attorney
  • Documents requiring a witness signature

You are responsible for determining whether an electronic signature is appropriate for your document. Quill does not provide legal advice.

4. Your responsibilities

  • You must have authority to send documents for signature.
  • You must provide accurate signer names and email addresses.
  • You must not use Quill for illegal purposes or to send fraudulent documents.
  • You must not upload documents containing malware, executable code, or illegal content.
  • You are responsible for keeping your signing links confidential and sharing them only with intended recipients.

5. Payment

Each document costs £1.99, payable at the point of sending via Stripe Checkout. Payment is non-refundable once the signing invitations have been sent, as the service has been delivered.

If a technical failure prevents your document from being sent after payment, contact us at support@quillsign.app and we will issue a refund or re-send the document.

6. Document lifecycle

  • Signing requests expire after 30 days if not completed by all signers.
  • You may cancel a signing request at any time before completion. All signers will be notified.
  • Completed documents are emailed to all parties as a PDF attachment. The signed PDF is available for download from your dashboard for 30 days.
  • Audit trail data and signed documents are retained for 6 years in accordance with the Limitation Act 1980, then permanently deleted.

7. Audit trail

Every signed document includes an audit trail page recording: signer names, email addresses, pseudonymised IP addresses, timestamps, consent acknowledgements, and a SHA-256 hash of the final document for tamper evidence.

This audit trail is designed to support the evidential requirements of electronic signatures under UK law. However, Quill does not guarantee the legal enforceability of any specific signature or document.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bright Sustainability Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Quill, including but not limited to:

  • Disputes between signers regarding the validity of a signature
  • Loss arising from a document being signed that should not have been
  • Loss arising from service downtime or technical failures
  • Loss arising from unauthorised access to your account or signing links

Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid for the specific document in question.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by English law.

9. Service availability

We aim to keep Quill available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend the service for maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We will not be liable for any loss caused by service unavailability.

10. Intellectual property

You retain all rights to the documents you upload. By using Quill, you grant us a limited licence to store, process, and transmit your documents solely for the purpose of providing the signing service. We do not access, read, or use your document content for any other purpose.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to Quill if you breach these terms, use the service for illegal purposes, or engage in activity that could harm the service or other users.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the email address associated with your account. Your continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
